Discover Caen while camping

A place steeped in history, Caen bears the mark of William the Conqueror, with its magnificent Abbaye aux Hommes and its iconic castle housing two museums, one focusing on the heritage of the site and the other on fine arts. Once you have enjoyed these fascinating visits, take the time to appreciate the historic heart of this lively city, which is full of warm and lively corners.

Stroll through the narrow streets of the picturesque Vaugueux district in the footsteps of Édith Piaf, admire the Escoville mansion, then immerse yourself in the rejuvenating atmosphere of the Jardin des Plantes and the Colline aux Oiseaux. The area around the marina also offers a very pleasant setting for a walk.

After enjoying the centre, there is an essential visit just outside the city: the Caen Memorial. Here, the entire history of the Second World War is told in a detailed and entertaining way. The museum layout of these 14,000 m² of exhibitions allows all generations to understand what happened in Normandy during the conflict, particularly at the time of D-Day. It is the perfect introduction before heading to the D-Day beaches, just half an hour’s drive away.
