Site of the Falaises des Vaches Noires
AT THE FOOT OF THE CAMPSITE, DISCOVER THE CLIFFS OF THE BLACK COWS!
For history lovers, come to Houlgate and more particularly to the Falaises des Vaches Noires to discover different types of fossils:
snails, devil’s claws, ammonites…
Fossils appeared during the Jurassic period between 205 and 135 million years ago.
A fossil is a debris or imprint of a plant or animal buried in the rock layers prior to the present geological period and which is preserved.
The Vaches Noires are located on the Normandy coast between Houlgate and Villers-sur-Mer. They are composed of cliffs that can reach 110m in height.
The Vaches Noires cliffs are also composed of clay, marl and chalk clays.
